Was that yellowface on Saturday Night Live?.
Apparently, yes, it was. I am disappointed. I love comedy. I love Saturday Night Live. My family and I are looking forward to visiting New York City and seeing a live taping of the show in the near future. While I certainly don’t expect comedy acts to lose their edginess by staying clear of controversial issues or think skit writers and actors should compromise their artistic integrity, I do wonder about some questionable practices in movies and film. Ones that I thought we are past already, this far along in the 21st century. While yellowface has not achieved the same negative stigma as blackface, it does have similar connotations for those among us who fight for racial justice.
My family and I want to see a taping of SNL. It is on my By 45 List. But, considering some very real problems with the show, and the alluring call to commitment that I never stop hearing, I am saddened and feel I need to make a decision.
I’m interested to hear opinions on this matter. Let me know what you think in the comments.
